Offering Flexibility, UNNES Opens Master and Doctoral Programs By Research

For the first time, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) opened By Research Admission for Doctoral and Master programs. Registration for this program will be open in the Even Semester/2nd Semester of 2023/2024, from December 29th, 2023, to January 26th, 2024.

Six Doctoral and 17 Master programs have been opened in By Research program.

UNNES Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Zaenuri Msi Akt, explained that the program was opened to meet the community’s needs and the demands of the development of science and technology.

According to him, By Research program is held to produce independent scientists who can discover, create, and update science through research activities.

UNNES opened By Research program after considering the potential and resources possessed. In addition to its institutional reputation, the Doctoral and Master programs at UNNES have qualified professors to guide students in the research process.

More Flexible, Quality Maintained

The head of the UNNES Academic and Student Affairs Sub-Directorate, Prof. Dr. Joko Widodo, M.Pd., explained that the program offers flexibility.

According to its purpose, the program orientation is research output through publications or other works. Students do not have to take scheduled lectures as in regular doctoral and master programs.

“The courses are more in guidance with mentors or promoters. As well as this guidance mechanism is also flexible according to the needs and conditions of students with their supervisors. It can be offline or online meetings,” he said.

Even if it is necessary to enter class, it is not mandatory; students only sit in to broaden their horizons on specific topics.

Prof. Joko added that this class will provide many conveniences to students because the thesis and dissertation topics can also be adjusted to the student’s field of work. That way, students can compile proposals, collect data, conduct analysis, and prepare publications from where they work.

Encountering Curriculum Changes, Magister of Early Childhood Education UNNES Exposes Research at SUSS Singapore

Curriculum change is challenging for teachers, not least for ECE (Early Childhood Education) teachers. To face this challenge, the ECE postgraduate studies of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) held a joint research expose at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) on November 29, 2023.

The joint research is based on the commitment of both countries to mobilize ECE services that are increasingly integrated and jointly develop ECE postgraduate studies.

The student research team, consisting of Nilamsari Putri and Faiz Ridwan, presented research on the contribution of self-regulation and work motivation to teachers’ readiness to face curriculum changes.

In the expose, the Head of SUSS’s ECE Magister program highlighted Singapore’s increasingly integrated ECE sector. Meanwhile, the delegation of UNNES Magister in ECE, Ali Formen and Edi Waluyo, explained the landscape of ECE and postgraduate studies in Indonesia.

This expose is part of the 2023 Magister of ECE Asian Study Tour. The delegation consisted of 50 students and three chaperones. They also visited five ECE centers that SUSS recommends.

“The hope is students, who are also ECE educators, can see firsthand the good practices of Singapore ECE that they have read in various journals,” explained Ali Formen.

“During this time, we learned about Singapore ECE from the journal. Here we see it in real practice,” said Che Nur, who visited Little Skool House at the Republic Polytechnic.

On this occasion, students also develop new networks of their academic and professional friendships. In addition to lecturers and staff, SUSS also presents students and alums.

“We like to be divided into several roundtable groups. I talked a lot with Ms. Aida earlier, and we promise to do something together in the future,” Putri said optimistically.

The expose was concluded by signing off an initial understanding document between the two master program leaders. The hope is that initial understanding can encourage the exchange of knowledge , staffs, and students between the two study programs.
